*heal and whole come from the same germanic root “khailaz”, which means "to make whole"
What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga Therapy is an integrative and holistic approach to healing. Through one-on-one sessions, personalized to the individuals' needs, it bridges the worlds of yoga and healthcare.
Most people are fairly familiar with yoga as a physical practice; one that is very effective at promoting, maintaining and restoring vibrant physical health. While this is true, asana (the physical practice) is only one aspect of yoga; an expansive science and philosophy that incorporates physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of being. In yoga therapy, we work with all of these facets of self and assess how they are habitually patterned as we go about our lives.
What does a YT session look like?
Healing is one’s own journey towards wholeness and what transpires in a Yoga Therapy session can look incredibly different, even amongst patients with similar complaints. Whether one comes in with a physical ailment or with a psychological trauma, they will be met with curiosity and presence. Together, we may address a mental pathway or a somatic one; we may focus on breath/body awareness, access to joy, spiritual yearning, or lifestyle changes informed by Ayurveda and Western Herbalism.
In a session you might learn and do practices to:
Improve range of motion and coordination
Correct faulty breathing patterns for better energy and sleep
Address areas of discomfort or muscular imbalance through specially designed postures and movements
Streamline and repattern movement and everyday postural efficiency
Use visualization or meditative introspective practices
Use techniques designed to understand archetypal tendencies
Access the somatic experience of traumas held in the body
Tap into psychoanalysis and deep shadow work
Step into a more present and joyful way of being

Lineage Acknowledgment.
Gaia acknowledges that the lineage of yoga is not her own. That people of color in the United States, including those of Indian lineage, come under systematic oppression.
Gaia is grateful to the wisdoms of those that came before her.
